I just wanted you guys all to know, that i had problems on hostelworld.com. They charged me with the deposit..and although i cancel my reservation 24h before my arrival they charged me for another 100 euro. This i find outrageous. I will not be using that website again and i truly recommend that you be careful and not cancel yr booking. I don't think there is anything else I can do to get my money back, but if you have any ideas, just let me know. Thank you!

How many days before your reservation did you cancel? What was the cancellation policy on that particular hostel? While 24 hours is the default, I think properties can put 48 hours and perhaps even longer. This info is given at the bottom of the "info" section for the hostel.
You can try contacting hostelworld through email and phone calls, but you may have a long battle ahead of you to get your money back.

I would assume that the hostel themselves has charged you with the balance of the booking fee - you need to get in touch with them about this problem. There should be info on your booking about the cancellation policy.

I've never heard of Hostelworld charging a guest €100 for a cancellation. Like the posts above mentioned: it's probably the hostel that charged you.
Were you charged for just one night or the entire stay?

Is hostelworld.com not just a booking engine like expedia or lastminute?? Call the hostel in question.

As I remember there is something like free cancellation if you pay for it.
You should look the cancellation policy of the hostel. If that is more than 24 they could charge you.
You should understand that the cancellation is harmful for the hostel, because you occupy a room until the last day, others can not book it. After cancellation the time is usually not enough to book that room.
