Just curious aabout this one. On hostelworld I have noticed that if a hostel only has say 5 reviews they remain down the bottom of the list (even if they have very high percentage). These hostels have a grey background which must change to blue after they have a certain number of reviews. Question is how many is needed to turn blue and go to top of list?

I believe your entry goes blue after receiving 10 ratings. You need 50 ratings to get the "Top rated hostel" label on your listing. It's a bit silly really as I've seen the list in a town near here have the top rated hostel at less than 80% as it has over 50 and one with 40 reviews at 90% not the top rated hostel as it have less than 50 reviews. I think that is correct, though I will be happy to be corrected.

I worked with a hostel last summer that got the Top Rated banner when we received our 51st review. Some of the old ones disappeared after 6 months, and we lost the banner again when we dropped to 50 reviews. I was keeping a very close eye on this, as I wanted to know the exact number too.

Hi,
When a customer sorts their results on Hostelworld by rating the following rules apply:
1. Properties with less than 10 ratings will sit below all of those with 10 or more
2. If 2 properties have the same rating but a different number of reviews, the one with more reviews appears first in the list
3. If a property has no reviews it is considered a new property and is automatically at the bottom of the list.
Reviews stay active on Hostelworld.com for 6 months from the arrival date so will disappear from the site after this time period and will no longer count towards a property's rating.
