It's been home to a boarding school, a hair salon and most recently, an art gallery.

But now, after a major renovation, the 120-year-old two-story house at 508 E. Broadway will be home to a cheap place to bunk for visitors stopping in town for a night or a few days.

After a 10-year hiatus, Missoula again has a hostel for weary travelers.

Named in honor of a treasured family member of purveyor David Loos, Hutchins Hostel is set to open for business by mid-October.

Ever since he arrived in town a few years ago to get his master's degree in environmental studies at the University of Montana, Loos has often wondered, and been asked by out-of-town friends: Why doesn't Missoula have a hostel?
