Well this was certainly unexpected. I witnessed the spontaneous combustion of my laptop this week. I set my computer down on the kitchen table after writing some emails and the next thing I knew a thin puff of smoke was wafting up out of it. I pulled the battery out in an attempt to shut it down as quickly as possible, and the smoke stopped. Thinking it had overheated I waited several hours and tried to boot it up to see if it would still work. Within seconds the smoke started to pour and flames were leaping out the back. Once again I yanked out the battery, this time to avoid catching my clothes on fire.
Apparently I’m not the first one to experience this. I found a couple of other people with the same Dell Inspiron Mini 9 model who had the same situation.
In this case the fire scorched the floor.
This time the poor folks were sitting in bed when their laptop caught on fire. Yikes!
Has anyone else ever had this happen to you? I loved my little Dell, but since I have to get a new one I think I might be better off with a brand that has a better safety record. Does anyone have a favorite netbook that they could suggest?
