"It's a huge misnomer about hostels that they're only for youth," Morris said. "Our organization dropped the word youth years ago."

Mary MacGabhann, who manages the Marin Headlands Hostel, said although city hostels tend to attract more international backpackers, Marin's hostels cater less to that crowd and more to families from throughout this country seeking a quiet place to stay in a beautiful, rural setting.
