Welcome to the site :)
I'm based in Amherst, MA and was just at the Boston Hostel a couple of months ago.
By "meet up groups" do you mean people who know each other already? Or people who have a common interest?
I have managed hostels for AYH in the 80' and I am back doing it again. In fact when I was 25 I opened the Boston Hostel for AYH. I helped open the Iron Masters Mansion, i startied the Gettysburg hostel (now closed), I ran the Abominable Snowmansion and the Circle A Ranch Hostels in New Mexico. I am now running the Nantucket Hostel for the 09 season.
I am wondering about hosteling for people who are not 21. I find a lot of our customers are in 45-65 y.o. who love travel and want to meet people. Also the whole idea of meet up groups. I feel like this is an untapped group market who would fit great with hostels. Thought?

Meet-up.com groups. I have a group coming this summer. 8 people who enjoy biking. So I thought I could join various groups and invite them to meet up and hang out at the hostel. Like the board gamers or singles. Fun..... www.meetup.com.... It is where I met my newest best friend.

It seams as something that could work.
This sound somewhat in the way of thinking from another thread where there was a discussion about getting more involved with the guests activities (e.g. recruit an activity manager)
