I've found some information on hostels closed, but no info on injuries yet. http://www.bbh.co.nz/default.aspx?pid=39
My deepest sympathies and concerns to all those on this forum directly connected to NZ. All of us here have either met, worked with people or traveled to beautiful, inspiring NZ. Kiwi's are resilient and resourceful people however, this challenge is immense and heartbreaking. If you can help a kiwi in any way please do it. The people of Christchurch are already helping the many stranded and injured visitors that are there at one of the busiest tourist times. Let's do our part even if it is just passing a kind word. It's a numbing tragedy, with aftershock worry and worry of other quakes striking other areas of the country. Has any heard of the conditions at the many hostels in Christchurch?

I'm keeping a close eye out and thoughts go out to our Kiwi neighbors at this sad time.
I was wondering how Base Backpackers was at it is directly across the road from the city center and the church that was affected. Just had a quick look on their website and it says they are closed but it doesn't have any further information. I hope every one there was ok.
