Online Job Scam Warning (Nigeria)
Hi Everyone,
A job scammer has been registering for the forum and was sending private messages to users offering jobs for a company called "Azamara Cruise Club Ltd". The scammer is located in Nigeria, but is using IP addresses in California, so it's difficult to block him by IP address.
Here is a sample job scam message:
[THIS IS A SCAM]
I have a job for you in Azamara Cruise Club Ltd website : azamaraclubcruises.com am the consultant to the company for 8 years now please can you send your c.v and application over as soon as possible to my private email dj26196@gmail.com and we will get back to you. [THIS IS A SCAM]Thanks
Consultant
Mr David Johnson
Here is how to tell if a job offer may be a scam:
- The potential employer contacts you directly instead of posting in the forum.
- The potential employer asks for money for any reason. DO NOT PAY MONEY TO RANDOM PEOPLE YOU MEET ONLINE, especially by Western Union.
- The phone number may be in the UK.
- The email address does not match the company offering the job.
- They are offering you a work visa.
If someone claims to be from a company like "Azamara Cruise Club Ltd", go to Google and search for the company's website and then contact them through the contact information on their own website to ask them if some random dude with a Gmail or Yahoo account is recruiting random people from online forums.
Every private message notification now includes a warning about online job scams.
If you receive any messages about job offers that look suspicious or ask for any money, please forward the message thread to [email protected] so that we can check whether the job offer is legitimate and then ban any scammers that do register.
If you have any questions, please post a comment below.
Thanks,
Josh
