Portland's Grove Hotel scheduled to be transformed into Asian-themed hostel and retail space
At Tuesday's Old Town/Chinatown Neighborhood Association meeting, a team of developers, including Wieden + Kennedy advertising executive John Jay, Ace hotelier Alex Calderwood, and David Gold and Howard Davis, will unveil plans to buy and transform the Grove into an Asian-themed building with six retail spaces, a restaurant and bar, and an international youth hostel.

I am familiar with these developers and the Ace Hotel chain. Should be an amazing concept design hostel with good money backing. Look out here come the hotel developers with big cash reserves! I soon see us hostels going the direction they should be here in the US ,meaning higher quality. Have a great season out there operators.

This is big news for Portland as the market is swamped and occupancy rates are high so this hostel will be wildly successful. The industry is changing here in the US for better as quality indeed is going up. A good thing, but may not be so good for the little people. We just opened so check us out www.travelershouse.org

You are more than welcome anytime. What I'm curious about is that there hasn't been any moves on this new hostel from my knowledge and I think that I'm relatively in the know...but the wheels are turning. Mainly the question of an "Asian Themed Hostel" This new development when and if it ever happens does show good growth for the market in the USA.
Most travelers want a relatively authentic experience to the country they are visiting.
Any other international hostels out there have a hostel themed after a country that isn't there's...exclusion of multi-country hostel room themes, etc of course as I know this is common.
