Don't worry - we all get far too much spam anyway - one more would not be noticed.
Bravo for using your real name, the forum will be a friendlier place for it.:)

A spammer registered an account here a couple of days ago and got by the defenses. Some users may have gotten a spam message today that advertised the spammer's Web sites.
I actually had that suspicious user in a "verification period" where they couldn't post the the forum, but I didn't realize that they still had permission to send private messages. Sorry about that. That spammer has been banned and cannot access this site anymore.
Please let me know if you get spam messages and I'll do my best to fix the problem. That spammer shouldn't have been able to get through, but it was an oversight on my part for not having the private messaging blocked.

I'll try to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm going to add some more automated tools to block spammers when I get a chance...
I don't understand what the spammers are thinking. Someone forwarded me that private message spam and it didn't look like there was any point. :confused:

I just did some research to try to figure out how they sent the spam, because this site already blocks people from sending a private message more than once every 60 seconds. So to PM a couple hundred users would take hours of repetition.
I searched Google and discovered that there is automated software for this task. :confused:
Here is an excerpt from the sales pitch from the software's Web site:

It looks like another private message spammer just registered for the forums. I hope I banned him before he sent any spam. (I screen new users.) Sorry if any messages got through.
