Pupils to study Twitter and blogs in primary schools shake-up
http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/mar/25/primary-schools-twitter-curriculum
Children will no longer have to study the Victorians or the second world war under proposals to overhaul the primary school curriculum, the Guardian has learned.
However, the draft plans will require children to master Twitter and Wikipedia and give teachers far more freedom to decide what youngsters should be concentrating on in classes.
Do kids really need to learn how to use Twitter in elementary school? I didn't even have a regular email account until I was in my late 20s and I still managed to figure it out :)
Children to leave primary school familiar with blogging, podcasts, Wikipedia and Twitter as sources of information and forms of communication. They must gain "fluency" in handwriting and keyboard skills, and learn how to use a spellchecker alongside how to spell.
Is it essential to know how to use a computer spellchecker by age 12?

hmmmm... i would have thought that learning history in school would be more important than tweeting ?? a vast majority of people have a computer at home now days, so wouldnt they learn it there? id be a bit pissed off if my kids were learning to spell check rather than spell, or had no idea what happened in world wars I or II. personally id say knowing what goes on in the world prevails over knowing how to condense your thoughts into 140 charachters.
