I'm talking about the establishment of a youth hostel in Roanoke, something that could have far-reaching implications for the future of a city that's angling for cachet as an outdoors mecca.

...the Potomac Area Council of American Youth Hostels is actively seeking a hostel property in Richmond.

Typically the organization buys a building for $1, or leases it for a similar amount, year to year. It staffs the hostel and covers its operating costs.

You see where I'm going here?

Roanoke has other buildings it will seek to sell down the road.
