I don't have stats, but I think it's sure to grow with the weak pound. One of the people at Rough Guides used to work at Hostelbookers (Ben C.). I wonder if he would be interested in your idea.

I'm helping put together a pitch to Rough Guides for a new Guide to Uk Hostels. Looking for info (stats, publicity or any evidence of the strength of the UK hostelling market). Has it grown? Has it changed? Need facts and figures.
I'm hopeful that the book would spur a major change in the public's perception of hostels and hence increase the popularity of hostelling.
