If anyone else could give me an idea of figures i could use for a 40 bed hostel that'd be great,

Running costs in New Zealand
Start a Hostel
Hi guys and girls, my partner and I are in the early stages of planning to open a hostel in New Zealand, of around 40 beds.
The problem i'm having is getting any REAL figures together that will be truly indicative of the running costs of such a hostel.
We are planning to take a mortgage and buy an older large house, freehold and convert it.
I'm looking for someone who is in NZ, running a similar sized hostel to give me an idea of costs like power, gas, water, maintenance, insurance and any other monthly costs. We're planning on running it ourselves initially so staffing costs wont be necessary. I understand power costs will vary depending on location, so give me an idea where you are to make it clear.
As i say it would be good to see real figures instead of estimates. You can send a private message if you like, it would be greatly appreciated.

If you mention the general part of New Zealand you're opening in it might make other hostels feel safer about answering. Hostels might wonder if you're opening in the same town as their hostel, in which case they aren't going to be motivated to give their future competition tips on how to get started. If they knoiw you're in another town that doesn't compete with them they will be more likely to help out. :)
