Starboard Hotels acquires Smart City Hostels, Edinburgh

everythings for sale gordo... whether advertised or not. yes, gloetrotters edinburgh has been unofficially on the market (unadvertised) for some time. like 2 years some time. without london i think they will struggle through the next winter price war. although don't write them off completely. they have targetted the lucrative groups market with some success over the last few years. we dont know what's going on out there most of the time do we. although they lost the top deck deal over a hogmanay overbooking fiasco and a manager who wouldn't solve the problem with a smile. i think it's a shame about the london property actually... and the ed one too. i was shown round both just after their respective openings and was quite impressed. missed the mark on a couple of things, like the internal card system, but got a lot of things right.

yeah, i worked out at the edinburgh one a couple of summers ago, and whilst they never said they were for sale; i DID get the impression they were open to offers. the relationship they had with topdeck to be honest, didnt seem that lucrative - topdeck guests stayed free (all 5 or 6 of them with each tour). they do work with a few other groups though; chillsauce stag parties, an english language school etc. we had one of teh topdeckers come around a few weeks back looking for hogmanay beds... looking for 500+... i wished them good luck on getting taht many :eek:

and yeah... those cards... ugh!
