I heard a car being driven off at high speed....
Sounds like a rough morning... :)
Had an Australian guy walk through the door last night and ask if we had vacancies - I sent him up to look at a double room (actually a 5 bed - 3 singles and a double - but they could have it for the double rate). He said it was just him and his wife. He went and looked, and then came back and said it was no good as his wife would want an en-suite (which we don't have). Fair enough I said, no problems - and advised him where he might find suitable accommodation in the area. As he left he asked if his wife (who was still in the car) could use the bathroom - of course, I said (there's no public toilets round here).
So he went outside, and a minute later I heard a car being driven off at high speed. So he'd just left, no problem, maybe his wife's toiletry needs weren't urgent.
This morning I was doing the cleaning, and I went out to put the bin bag in the outside bin (on a lawn on the other side of the car park) and as I do it I notice there's a bit of paper on the ground, so I go to pick it up and what should I find underneath it? Only a pile of poo! Basically someone had unburdened themselves on the grass behind the bin, wiped their backside, put the paper on it and the just left it there for some other poor sod to clean up. i.e. me.
Now I may be jumping to conclusions here, but I think the first and last paragraphs are related - we're in a rural location here, not may people walking by who would possibly do that. And we were very quiet last night, I can't imagine one of the people who were staying here just popping outside for a poop on the ground. I'm assuming she'd got caught short as he was looking at the room, and done a number on the ground.
I just wish she'd had the decency to clean it up a bit rather than leave me to do it.

ahhh the mystery poo. a friend of mine working in a Radisson hotel in ireland once found a poo in the soap dispenser in a bathroom in the restaurant.
yep, THATS what that smell was.

I remember once we checked in a Spanish girl into a nice 6 bed dormitory...5 minutes later she comes back "There is a sheet in the middle of the floor"
Although we don't normally worry about a bit of linen gone astray off someones bed, she convinced us we needed to investigate...and soon found something much more unfortunate. For the poor girl, though, this was her first hostel experience...luckily she got over it, and indeed ended up working for us...she is still one of my best friends to this day...
I am convinced that if someone gets over something like that they are much more relaxed in the environment for ever more..maybe we should make the welcome gift a policy...

poo sucks. i walked in to work one night and was told that i could not use the toilets because the water had been out for 3 hours... when i asked if any one had checked trhe mains, they asked me what mains were... moral of the story is, if you dont want to end up wrist deep in poo... educate staff or hide the mains. (thank god for giant red rubber gloves)

''then came back and said it was no good as his wife would want an en-suite'' Ozzie's... same story. they look for cheaper.
i do not blame them for play cheap. everybody does. but i do blame them for bad reviews!
about the poo. not Australian way. i think they did not do it. Italians will, if they have pay to much. Italians will take your soul with them

Cleaning poo's and running a hostel seem to run hand in hand!
sadly.
I was running a hostel where people more than once had managed to get to the toilet, but then decided to go on the floor instead.
and one day a girl (who I can only presume had been drinking) walked stright into reception squatted in a corner and did a wee and then walked off.
Brilliant!

Crazy... something like that happened at a hostel I worked at, except it was one of the housekeeping staff peeing on a guest's backpack in a dorm room before passing out in her bed.
(one of the most embarrassing conversations I've ever had to have with guests)
