Travelers certainly read the reviews, especially the bad ones. I wonder how many of them would really evaluate the breakdown of a particular reviewer rather than just accepting the average breakdown that HW shows. It does seem like a simple feature that would make the experience better for some travelers by allowing them to make a more informed evaluation of each hostel. And as you mentioned, other review sites already do this.
So why doesn’t HW make the change? Probably for the same reason that they don’t show the guests what their final rating will be before they submit their review: HW would have to have their programmers write some code.
Ultimately, if something improves the customer experience but doesn’t necessarily increase revenue, then it’s just something nice rather than something important. 'Nice' features get put on the back burner and their programmers will be used for something more profitable.
Right now I get the impression that the HB integration is still cracking their heads, even after all of this time. From what our HW Buddies have told us, it was a much more daunting task than anyone there was expecting.
Whether they display the rating breakdown or not probably won’t significantly change the likelihood of someone going ahead and making the booking, so it’s probably a low priority. I wouldn’t expect to see them change this anytime soon.
