Hello Hostel-Friends!
I would love to buy a hostel in France but there are hardly any offers. When surching through the internet I dont find many hostels at hostelworld.com or hostelbookers.com nor on the homepage of the "lonely planet". I just dont get it? Paris is the only place with plenty of hostels but almost everywhere else there´s practicaly nothing. Where and how are backpackers and other travellers "with a smaller purse" staying in France???

J´aimerais bien acheter une auberge en France mais il n´y a presque pas d´offres. En cherchant sur internet, je ne trouve pas grand chose sur hostelworld.com ou hostelbookers.com ni dans le site du "lonely planet". Je n´arrive pas à comprendre! Uniquement à Paris il y en a beaucoup mais ailleurs il n´y à practiquement rien. Où et comment logent donc les "backpackers" et d´autres voyageurs avec une "petite bourse" en France???

Most of the hostels in France are State run, as opposed to independent owner-operated businesses. You can find them at fuaj.fr

I don’t know if the place is still available or if it was sold long ago, but this hostel in Carcassonne was up for sale in 2010.

Regulations and bureaucracy in France can make opening a hostel a rather daunting task, so many would-be entrepreneurs simply don’t bother. The country is definitely in need of some more good independent hostels.
