The Gateway Hostel in Brisbane is getting demolished and rebuilt as a 5-story, 372-bed hostel:
Demolition work began at a city youth hostel yesterday to make way for a new five-storey home-away-from-home for foreign backpackers and domestic tourists on a budget. [...] Once the redevelopment is complete in mid-2009, the new hostel will offer 372 beds in a state of the art five-storey building.
Guests will have the option of relaxing by the roof-top swimming pool or in the licensed cafe. The design also includes outdoor dining and entertainment areas.
"The redevelopment highlights the city's ever-increasing demand for quality, budget accommodation for our growing tourism market," YHA Queensland CEO Ralph Kajet said.
"This hostel will set the standard for Queensland's high-tech, experience-seeking budget traveller."
