There are plans for a new hostel in Jasper, Canada by 2013. The $5-$6 million hostel would have 120 beds.

hehehe - could be a while off. HI-pacific mountain region just 'merged' (read: took over) with HI-northern alberta. board passed it and as soon as it was made official 2 managers (jasper and athabasca i think) walked off the job. good times. obviously this merger idea wasnt for everyone.
HI canada is also currently working on building one in whistler for the olympic village and then running it as a hostel afterwards. big things ahead apparently.

Interesting... I started reading about that merger yesterday but didn't have time to finish.

apparently the police had to get involved and escort a few staff off hostel property who were protesting.
