Some bad news: this is the Euro vs the Aussie Dollar:
We shouldn´t only stare at the American economy - we have almost as many Aussie guests as Americans, so a weak AUD is bad news. Australians usually travel longer than Americans, hence spend a longer time in each hostel, too (2.4 nights in our case compared to the 1.9 nights Americans stay). They also travel more during off-season than Americans.
So: we may get some additional guests who scale down their budget, which is nice but can also be problematic. These people stay in hostels because they´re cheap, not because they like hostels so much. They are harder to satisfy. On the other hand, we might have less Aussie backpackers because they can´t afford it any more.
