Ryanair to cut all airport check-in desks

Europe's largest low-fare airline Ryanair (RYA.I) said on Saturday it planned to save costs by closing all its airport check-in desks by the end of the year and have passengers check in online instead.
"All we will have is a bag drop where passengers can drop off their luggage, otherwise everything will be done online," Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O'Leary told the Daily Telegraph.

You are not far away from the truth... :D
They try to lay off staff but it's the same people at the boarding gates who do the check in! Companies try to get rid the human factor to save money... although it never works! :D
I had my flight canceled from Dublin, so had to rebook my ticket. (Aerlingus)
There was a long queue at check in, so I decided to use the check-in machine. I had my confirmation in my suitcase, so I did put my ID card. It didn't read it. I searched for my confirmation, entered my reservation number, flight number, etc. It did ask for luggage fee for my 1 hold luggage, although I already paid for it on the net. I had to stand in the queue, mentioned my problem to the flight attendant, then she made another boarding card including my luggage as well.
So what's the sense for online check in anyway?
