Isn't it weird that they are only attacking hostels ???? any hidden interests there ????
It's a very sad news but I have to announce that vandalism has arose in Budapest recently and the victims are hostels.
Possibly due the strong competition, someone fed up (and got lots of free time), started walking around the streets of Budapest and spray paints and/or removes hostel signs from the street. IMHO the motivation is to destroy ratings and make sure our guests won't be able to check in.
Some cases the inter phone has been destroyed, some has been "lucky" enough that they got only spray painted. Most of these actions happened during the day (!) without any witnesses and the despair/courage of this person manages to remove even highly mounted (2m) sign built in the wall.
It started with only few hostels in October and only occasionally (like once a month or so) but now it happens like once a week and some 20+ hostels has been attacked few days ago.
Police has been reported several times, they can't do anything against it. A hostel hired a private detective but there were no results. I'm thinking about installing a camera but public, street cameras are unauthorized due privacy issues and needs council permit, also it's possible that the vandal would remove it along with the sign...
Any suggestions how can we fight it?
We will have a meeting to discuss what can be done and any help would be appreciated.

Well, it's more than obvious the vandal is hostel related. The only result it made that Budapest hostels are getting more organized and joining together.

That's terrible. I hope someone can catch the person behind it...

Doesn't any hostel in Budapest has cameras so they can see what happen?
If not - this is the time to join "Big Brother" : )

We have cameras in some hostels although it happens outside of the building, from the street. Using a street camera is a privacy issue, needs special permit.
Few hostels gathered together to make a complete list of hostels and it seems it's been over 50 hostels involved. The media is not a bad idea though.
