Hostels and hotels don´t fill up - something unheard of so far.
Sorry to hear that!
Does that mean you still got some empty beds as well?
This must be my 30th Oktoberfest - I have never seen it so empty on the opening day. Beertents didn´t fill up until the afternoon - usually, you would go there at 10am and wait inside for two hours until they start serving beer - or not get inside at all. Rollercoasters: go to the cash desk, pay, walk in and board. Two years ago, I had to line up for an hour - it was so bad that people had to be rescued from the stampede by ambulances; they passed out because people from behind pushed so hard it was difficult to breathe.

11 (of 300) beds empty on Friday 18th. No big deal, just annoying. Lots of no-shows as well. It seems to be much worse at some other hostels. It might be good news - every buck NOT made during O-fest won´t be thrown at the usual silly winter price war.
My point is: O-fest was just always the big money-machine for Munich. The fairy-tale cash-cow. It propably still is (sort of), but it was always considered as something totally crisis-proof. Welcome to reality. :)
