Many popular Southeast destinations have just one hostel or none at all. But Asheville has become home to three in recent years, attracting mostly young travelers looking for a cheaper way to enjoy the city's rich music, outdoors and craft beer scene.
Gill, who opened Bon Paul and Sharky's in 2005, said hostels offer more than a cheap bed.
“Every week, people call and say, ‘I've never stayed in a hostel before, what's it like?' And I always like to tell them it's a much more dynamic experience than you'll get staying in any hotel, … sitting alone in your room watching cable all night"...
