It can work, but you might need someone on duty until about 1 or 2am depending on how much your guests drink. :)

Hi All,
We are looking to open a rural 3 room hostel (4bd dorm, 3bd dorm, dbl) in a house about 8 minutes (driving) from where we currently live. Neither the house nor the business plan would allow for management to be able to live on site.
Is it feasible to leave the hostel unattended at night? We plan to go to the hostel every day from say 8:30am-11:30am to help people start their day or check out. Then return in the afternoon from 4:00pm-9:00pm to mingle and help the guests with whatever they need. Being 8 minutes away would enable us to have flexible check-ins and drive over to assist people when they call us. But there is no space for someone to live in the hostel privately unless they took one of the 7 dorm beds and we do not want that.
The area is very safe so security from outsiders would not be required and the hostel is up in the forest so walk-ins would be very unlikely since the address would not be available unless you make a booking.
Any thoughts?

I agreed to some extent except that I find that guests in hostels out in the country tend to go to sleep pretty early especially if there is nothing within walking distance. Plus, guests might be pretty tired if they are hiking or sight-seeing all day.
