Some people have been complaining there are unlicensed hostels on Hostelworld. Is there a policy on that?

While Hostelworld.com clearly does not have a regulatory role for the global hostel industry, the safety of our customers is paramount. We take licensing very seriously. Our staff members are trained to do checks on all properties and we work closely with the BOAs and BTAP in Australia to investigate complaints about hostels and reports of unlicensed hostels. Our staff investigate all complaints thoroughly and will deactivate properties which are not properly licensed. Equally, it is standard practice that properties which have a low customer satisfaction rating will also be deactivated permanently.
