Berlin is extremely competitive. Have you looked into the competition there yet?
Hi all
if you would open a hostel in Berlin in which areas would you look for properties? Which areas are trendy? In which districts are the most social activities going on?
thanks in advance for your answers & help

yes that´s true, there are many hostels, but I mean its Berlin, Germany`s one and only world metropolis...
I mean are there any good parts in the world where there is no competition? I see competition everywhere...
I think there is still a high demand in cities like Berlin. In my opinion opening a hostel in a big city like Berlin is less risky than opening one
in a town or place where no hostels have been established yet. What I am trying to say is that in Berlin you know there is always need for beds.
What do you think?

There is competition in many places, but some places more than others. I'm not saying not to do it, only to be sure to research the competition :)
From what I've heard, hostels in Berlin are large and there are a huge number of dorm beds in the city.

i am interested in this thread, as i am considering such a venture in berlin
also, i am attracted by other options nearer the seaside, but i cut out italy (where i come from) and eastern europe coasts, as it seems to have similar problems to italy
so, berlin is my top choice, but do you reckon the market is already saturated?

Hello,
I'm actually doing my master here in Berlin.
What others mentioned before is true, it seems like there is a hostel on every corner. I have just stayed in one hostel and it has been very full. So maybe if you have a good conecpt or sth different/better from the other hostels you can make it.
Because of the location: I would not chose Neuköln. It is one of the "poorer" part of Berlin and has the fame of being dangerous. I think this is not a place I would like to stay as a tourist.
I think good neighbourhoods are: Mitte (center), Prenzlauer Berg (calm but very close to the center - 5 min com subway), Charlottenburg -- these are the best places for tourists who like sight seeing and it is close to all attractions
Maybe Kreuzberg and Friedrichshein are OK; they are in the south east, very "multi-kulti" with people from different countries and many, many students, bars, discos etc...
If you need any help or more information just PM me...

an idea- hope it is helpful... many Russians travel to European countries by BUS. every bus passes thru Berlin! (well, almost!!) when you get up and running, contact автотур companies in Russia and maybe they will use your property as a stop.
