Mobile Coupons for Hostels?

I am told that the popularity of location-based mobile coupons is growing rapidly, and that they’re already huge in the US. Companies offer discounts to (potential) clients directly on their mobile phones when they are in the area to drive sales.

Could these mobile coupons be used to promote hostels too? When a traveler steps off of their bus or plane in a new city, a coupon could be sent directly to them offering discounts on a bed, a welcome drink, a load of laundry, or anything else that might entice them to head straight for your hostel.

Likewise, once they’re in your hostel a mobile coupon for drink specials could entice your guests to move from their dorm rooms into your bar.

Is anyone currently using mobile coupons to promote your hostel? (Or is anyone using them to promote anything else and willing to discuss how well they work for you?)
