This sounds like a fantastic idea. Takes some research and working out logistics but I'd love to see the outcome. I almost want to go to running of bulls this year just to check out hostival!!!
This is something different.
Hostival brings you the only hostel that travels as much as you do. These guys bounce from festival to festival setting up and tearing down accommodation for up to 500 people – right in the heart of the party.
[Hostival is] a one of a kind nomadic hostel that follows its clientele around the world to the biggest festivals to give guests what they want, where they want it and, most importantly, when they want it. We set up affordable accommodation at the biggest, wildest, and most memorable events all over the world.
…
We are excited to welcome you to the world’s first and only mobile hostel! Hostival is a nomadic globe trotting festival hostel. Always located at the heart of the action Hostival is never more than 15 minutes away from the centre of the festivities. With expandable accommodation that is capable of hosting up to 500 guests a night you never have to go far for a party!
HB picked up the story on their blog, and they’re ready to sell the beds.
Commissioned by Hostival and designed by Haack + Höpfner, construction of this unique project will commence in early 2011. The final product will be ready to roll for Pamplona and the Running of the Bulls in July this year.
While the design itself is all very hush hush, what we can divulge is the following:
• It can sleep 500 guests
• It can host 2000 visitors an hour
• It features 4-6 indoor and outdoor common areas
• It is portable
• It is entirely eco-friendly
• It sounds pretty awesome
I have to agree. Nice job, Hostival!
What do you guys think? Will this be a unique element or is this the future of our industry? Are we going to start seeing fleets of mobile hostels racing down the highways from destination to destination?
For those of you who run hostels near the big festivals, do you foresee this causing problems for your business?

Really interesting idea, but I think they might struggle to get the permits and licensing they need to pull this off.

Yes, I think your on to what will be their biggest problem.
If they somehow umbrella it in under the Event itself - may be easier.
You'd have a locked in clientele , the logistics would be $$$. water supply (showers right?) Generators, trucks, rego, insurance.
Best of luck to them.
