If one gets a bad review, is there any way you can write a reply/comment on tripadvisor?
For us ,Tripadvisor becomes where some moody and revengeful customers to express anger and revenge us.Sometimes they also often threat us to write bad reviews if we don't follow thier requests violating the rules Like bringing hookers or unregistered to their rooms, sudden room cancellation , key or room damage.
They are also very smart to know that thier reviews or content might be verified on hostelworld or hostelboookers when the property owners informed the sites with proof that they violated rules.
Therefore, the've found that Tripadvisor review is much more effective and stay on the site forever.
Do you guys have any plans and suggestions against this ? ( WE alsodo believe that great and caring service is the best but sometimes it's not enough for tricky guests)

Yes, we replied with the truth to let other viewers decide but the bad reviews obviously affected our rank and score from top 10 down to top 20.
, the thing is the reviewers made things up with lies and exaggerated contents like " our breakfast is worse than eating insect, almost fell from the top bunk bed, sleeping on the street much better than our horror film like hostel".Funny thing is Tripadvisor allow this kind of anger content even they wrote that thsese are words from anger not the truth.
Importanty, sometimes the tricky reviewers just skipped the truth about violation. We wrote to the tripadvisor but it's just ignored.

Hmm, I understand the problem! :( I posted an article here, but the link was not accepted (because of my recent forum registration I think), but if you search "tripadvisor" at dailymail.co.uk you should find it. I think tripadvisor will be forced to look over their review functions now.

Sorry about that. I just checked the spam filter and published your post. The spam filter is set so high, I just found one of my own posts in there.
I can't turn the spam filter down or the site would be swamped with spam. There are bots trying to sign up constantly. Sorry that some posts get delayed...

Not a fan of Tripadvisor. Here's a bit of history about suing them.

European Union Directive 2000/31/EC establishes a safe haven regime for hosting providers:
Article 14 establishes that hosting providers are not responsible for the content they host as long as they are not informed of its illegal character, and that they act promptly when informed of it.

TripAdvisor users who post fraudulent hotel reviews could face legal action, according to a report by the UK's Telegraph newspaper. People who write inaccurate and slanderous reviews are soon to be given a two-week amnesty period to remove their posting, or else they are liable to be sued.

Hmm. In the first link mentioned in the last message, there is a page clip showing that the hotel had 1 terrible review and 29 excellent.
29 excellent????? And none in between? That's just as suspicious as the 1 terrible. I've never seen such a total of excellents. I have the strong suspicion that none of those reviews are reliable.

I just took a look at the actual site. It confirms my impression. The reviews are well-written but do have a number of things in common -- they are all just too gloating to fully believe, many of them quote the name of the agent and how wonderful she was, most of them say a lot about the surroundings but nothing detailed about the accommodation itself, a majority say "we will be back again" or "it was the best place I ever stayed" or "I will tell all my friends about it". By contrast there were 2 reviews that were critical, which detailed specific things and give a totally different impression.
