Every year I get a solicitation to advertise on Tripadvisor and every year I decline because Tripadvisor will not link there listing directly to my hostel reservations system. They insist on maintaining their partnerships with various 3rd party booking engines. I tell them, "Why would I want to pay you for advertising and still have to pay 10-15% in commission to 3rd party booking engines. This does not make good business sense." They always say they understand but there is no way to change their default partners.
What do other hostel owners think about this?

Your suggestion sounds great to me. I would be much more inclined to pay TripAdvisor if the guests could book directly with my Hostel.
Right now we are listed anyway on TripAdvisor for free with a good ranking. What exactly do they offer extra in order to make it worth paying them?
