Right next to "Recent" is the "New Posts" tab. That's the one I prefer to use. I don’t think it actually displays less of the "want ads" but it looks cleaner to me and only shows the threads with posts that I haven't read yet.
I like to click on the recent button up the top of the page to see the topics that have new posts since I last visited. I was just wondering if there was any way to exclude posts from people either looking for work or offering it, or even those that have a hostel for sale or want to buy one. I appreciate that the boards provide a useful service for these posts, I'd just rather be able to see a feed that excluded the "want ads". I imagine that it would be quite difficult to do, but I'm not really sure if it would be possible or even if anyone else would think it's a good idea.

Thanks for that Brian,
I used to use the new posts, but then I realised that once I had viewed a post it would disappear, so if I viewed an interesting post but didn't have the time to reply then it would no longer be new and thus not be shown. And I would then forget about it. If that makes sense.

Do you know about Pocket? You can install it in Firefox or Chrome and click the button to save posts for later. When you're done reading an article in Pocket, you can mark it as read and it will disappear from the list. That might be one way to save posts that you want to reply to later.
I use Pocket to sync online articles with my phone for offline reading. If I click the button in Firefox, the article automatically appears on my phone and I can read it offline while on the train or another place that doesn't have Internet access...
I think that the "New Posts" list excludes hostel jobs, while the "Recent" list shows all updated content...
