So I recently changed our taxes on Hostelworld to be not included in room price. Before we were including them in the price, but then you get taxed on the commission so decided to do it this way, even though it's a bit more confusing for the guests.
So I changed my tax details in the back office, but when I went to make a test booking, I notice they do not tell the guest ANYWHERE whatsoever that taxes still need to be applied. There is no mention of taxes in any form. It simply gives them the total minus commission and says this is the amount due to the property on arrival. I can write tax info in my property description but I think many guests won't see this and complain when their total is adjusted on arrival.
In the back office when you update your tax details it says " Please note that the taxes payable will only display on the German version of Hostelworld.com"... What the hell's going on there? Why only the German version? It seems so arbitrary. Do they think only Germans are fastidious enough to care about the tax? ;)
Does anyone know anything about this? Should I speak to HW or is there something I'm missing? Also, how does everyone handle HW taxes? Included or excluded?
Cheers!
