Hello,

I am talking from Full Sail Hostel in Fortaleza, Brazil. I would like to share with you guys something I have been finding odd on the HW webpage for Hostels in Fortaleza.
My Hostel was 90% rating till this 6th review, which I can not see. I have tried everything on my Inbox and this 6th review, which put my Hostel 2% lower, does not show on any section.
Later on, looking at the competition here in Fortaleza, I have found something that, as I am new on this business, would like to share if you guys: Che Lagarto Fortaleza does not have the "review" tab. How can they do it? Is it even fair with the rest of the Hostels here that are not part of any franchise?

Basically, can anyone give me more details about how HW works beyond the basic set up that we have?

Hi Full Sail Hostel!

Did you ever figure out the mystery of the missing review?

A long time ago I found that if a guest used HW in a language other than English when they left the review, then it did not show up with the other reviews or in the Inbox. I could be mistaken, but I believe that this is no longer the case.

Also, sometimes a review doesn’t show up until the day after the guest leaves it. Normally this is just for the overall rating calculation though. In most cases the review should show up, even if the rating doesn’t update until the next day. And it should certainly appear in the Inbox.

If this isn’t already resolved, was your HW Buddy able to offer any more information to explain it?

I wonder would it be a review on hostels.com

I think they contribute to your HW rating but they don't show their.

If you check the HW backend in customer ratings their is a hostels.com detailed review breakdown as well where the review might be located.

We did find out the reason after some research and phone calls, and it is probably something that is good to know so it doesn't confuse anyone else. There could be more to this, but this was our case.

First of all, yes, other languages oftentimes will not show up with other reviews, but there is a selection that you can hit showing all reviews. Then you can see them in other languages as well.

What happened with us, which probably has happened with many hostels, is a rating, but no one left a review. When this happens, all it does is affect your rating (at least with us this was the case). So our hostel's percentage changed, but there is no mention of how or why. On our page not even an empty review with a percentage rating. This is really annoying for more than one reason, and the only way we could figure it out was by calling HW to figure out the review.

So my parting advice is, be weary of random reviews that just change the percentage but never show up, even anonymously, on HW.

Take this all with a grain of salt, we learn something new about this type of thing all the time.
