By now you've probably heard of crowdfunding, the process of collectively raising money for a certain cause or project. There are numerous crowdfunding websites, such as the popular IndieGoGo, Kickstarter, and GoFundMe. There are also some newer, more niche sites such as TravelStarter, a tourism-based crowdfunding platform.
In 2015, it was estimated that crowdfunding raised over $34 billion (USD) worldwide, and that included the hostel industry.
