I thought Melbourne and Oakland were odd choices, but looked it up and that is where LP has offices ;)
Oakland (a few miles from here) does have great food though...

melbourne has an EXCELLENT food culture; some amazing restaurants, good cage scene and cheap.
id nominate NYC, Melbourne... and well... maybe Singapore, but I havent spent much time there and really love south Asian food.

Whenever I travel away from the SF Bay Area, of the top 3 things I miss the most, Food is # 2... My Community is #1.

I wonder if something like that would work in California somewhere... maybe a larger geodesic dome with bunk beds. :)

Paris is outdated, I'd say the best are Cairo, Tokyo ( if we're not talking about pricing, but only about good food) and villages in Romania where the REGULAR food is bio and they don't even call it that. "Bio" food is very much a luxury nowadays, in the civilized countries of western Europe and USA, as is the clothing not made out of petrol.
