This thread is for a list of hostel Web sites that people think are well-done.

Are there common elements make a hostel's Web site effective?

(It's OK to nominate your own hostel's Web site.)

OK, so folk are reluctant to kick this one off. Someone has to be first so here we go!

I am very happy with my web site and it has brought in loads of new customers. I designed the site using Powerpoint and then my good friend Uli (on this forum) did the magic bit of transforming it for the web.

The BB is usually a bit quiet at this time of year but livens up during the spring. We decided to have 2 photo albums, one public and the other only accessible if you have witnessed the mayhem here. I have various back doors to edit the BB, to move photos, etc.

Keep it quiet but the password to the private collection is raki, the name of our local firewater, given to all returning guests, ask "Hostels";)

:D It's a great site... The private photo gallery and bulletin boards are great features.

There is still a photo of me in there from 6 or 7 years ago sleeping on the lawn with my guitar...

Yeah, that is the photo, from 2001 I think... I had met two backpackers at the Rethymno Hostel that said, "you should go down to Plakias and check it out for a couple of days. There is a hostel there..." :D

(ended up being a little more than a couple of days...)

Here is a Web site from a guest house in Japan. It's in Japanese, but I think it's a great example of making a fun-looking hostel Web site with a WYSIWYG HTML editor:

I think many hostel Web sites lack the "fun" element. People stay at hostels to meet people so I think it is effective to have a lot of photos of groups of people having fun. I think that the photos on the Japanese site work well...
