In 2012 Buddy Media conducted a study of 1,800 brand Facebook pages over a two-month period to identify the best times to post content in order for customers to interact with the brand pages. Here are some general findings:

• Posts published between 8 PM - 7 AM received 14% higher interaction than posts published between 8 AM - 7 PM.
• Brands that post once a day see 19% higher interaction rates.
• Pages that post more than 7 times per week see a 25% decrease in interaction rates.
• Interaction rate for weekend posts is 14.5% higher than weekday posts, yet only 14% of posts are published on weekends.

What they mean by “interaction” is that a post received a like, comment, or share. In this study, 79% of the interactions were likes, 15% were comments, and 6% were shares.

Days leading up to and including the weekend would be the best for hostels to post content, according to this study.

Interactions rates start climbing on Thursdays and peak on Sundays, when interaction is 19% higher than average.

Facebook has a scheduling option that allows you to write your content when it's convenient for you and post it at a later date and time.

I wonder if the peak time of day would be the same for hostels as it is for the rest of the Travel and Leisure sector. Many of our guests log into Facebook late in the evening or early in the morning when the tourist attractions are closed or when far-off family and friends are awake. Many backpackers lose track of the days of the week too, so I wonder if posting on the weekends would make a big difference for hostels.
