Hello there - so nice to see this website for those of us who love hostelling! I just returned from a month in Italy where I "hostelled all the way". :) It was a great experience and further motivated me to start my own hostel in Northern California... but I don't want to do it alone. I'm single, no kids and able to move on this soon. I'm at the beginning stages of the starting process and would like to find a savvy partner who is as interested in hostelling and providing an excellent experience for travellers as I am. There's some lovely country up there. Did you ever know the hostel near Leggett? The owner used to write enthusiastically about it on internet newsgroups, before the days of forums. It was set in a forested area with lots of huts, a central kitchen, a hot tub and a pub. The owner died in about 1998.

Nice to hear from you, UKTrail. Yes, I know of the Leggett hostel - it's fantastic and I've stayed there before. That hostel is to me what is the best in hostelling - a beautiful location, a historic building, nice and groovy owners and all for only $15/night! My dream would be to own a hostel similiar to that one (which is an HI hostel, called, "Redwood Hostel in Klamath, CA".
