February = best time to go there. Torres Del Paine was my absolute favorite in South America.
I stayed in that house BTW. :)

Yes, technically it´s a hostel. They call it "refugio". It has a few rooms with bunks upstairs and a common room with kitchen on the ground floor.
If you want to go there, consider this:
The best way to get there is to catch the Navimag ship from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales. Reservations are essential, google it up and book online. I wanted to take the ship, but it was full. Apparently, it´s a stunning cruise - the coast in southern Chile is supposed to be pretty similar to Norway´s.
In Puerto Natales, you can rent all the gear you need for a hiking trip in the national park. A shuttle bus will bring you there. There are only three buildings in this huge park* - the check-in shack, a small luxury hotel and this refugio.
If you are a hardcore hiker, you´ll do the "Circuito" - that´s a seven-day hike all around the park. If you are a wimp like me, you book a bed for a week in the refugio. It´s in the middle of the park and you can see almost the entire park by making daytrips from the refugio only with a light pack (instead of carrying around a tent and food for a week if you do the circuito). Most importantly, you can always decide in the morning to stay inside if the weather is bad. The weather in this region can be REALLY bad, even in summer - think horizontal rain.
I REALLY recommend to go there. Once you´re there, it would be a crime to miss out the Perito Moreno glacier on the other side of the border in Argentina.
Watch this:
I didn´t get to see anything as spectacular as that when I was there, but I still stood there for six ours, watching in awe. It looks smallish, but the front edge of the glacier is 60 meters high. If only a "small" piece falls off, it´s still easily a 1000-ton-icecube.
*I was there in 1994 - I hope it hasn´t been invaded by mass tourism now... but I can´t imagine that - it´s just too far away from anything.

I like that kind of weather :)
Thanks for the tips. I'll go there sometime...
