Does it go too far, or should properties be exposed if their reviews are consistently abysmal?

I checked the UK list. The only one I recognised is Nanford Guest House, Oxford. I have actually mentioned this on this forum, though not by name, in a related context, I forget the details. But it was on my site until I demoted it to just a mention because it is not a hostel, and then was sent a very bad report about it by a visitor to my site, who criticised mainly the food hygiene.

What bothers me is the thing about bedbugs. You can get bugs in a perfectly clean ho(s)tel.
Otherwise, no, this does not go too far. I have stayed in a hostel in London two weeks ago and thought the owner obviously cares only about making piles of cash. It was ridiculous.

My impression was the same during my backpacking trip about Irish hostels (except for Camden Place in Dublin, it was the best Irish hostel I stayed at). Most of them don't care because they get a bunch of guests anyway... so why would they bother improving any services if they get the same money at the end? :(

Our responsibility is to the guest not some GM or HK who are not doing there job. There is a covenant that exists between the Hostel and guest that says the guest is garanteed a clean, sanitary and safe bed to sleep in. What is in the guests interest always comes first.

I agree. This must be the case with Hotel Carter because it's number #1 for something like the 4 year straight. Why are they still in business? I guess location, location, location trumps everything else. But I'd rather stay an hour outside Times Square than in Times Square at a complete dump. :D
