Effective Risk Strategies
EDIT: This forum thread continues the conversation started here.
Applause. You seem to be a good boss. Can we hire you? ;)
Well... Thanks for your offer but I don't speak German! ;) Also I still have a hostel to run...

Hahaha, I´ll ask my bosses if I can go to a Poker seminar in Budapest! :D
Or you can tell your wife that you go to business training every time you go for a poker party!

I don´t really poker though. We have a quite good "traditional" card game in Bavaria, called "Schafkopfen" - I´m a big fan of it. The main difference to Poker is that ALL cards get distributed to the four players. At the end of the game you can make good guesses which cards are left in the game and who has them - if you can keep track of 32 cards that´s a huge advantage.
There´s not much bluffing involved though - for that I know a very good dice game I learned in South America, called "Dudo". You need 5 dice per player, stock up and I´ll make a little Dudo seminar when we meet for a Risk evening.

One more question: When your bosses will ask you about how did you find the right manager for the hostel, would you say: "He won against me in Risk..." ? Just being curious...

OK, I´ll give away the truth then: we have 8 Managers now (2 per hostel). 5 of them are former receptionists, 1 is a former bartenter and only 2 were hired for the job as manager, because in both cases there was no other choice: the hostel in that town just opened so there were no reception staffers yet to consider.
So: we don´t usually give that job to someone we know less than a few years. It´s not decided by a game of Risk; usually there is not even much debate, it´s like "hey, that guy is good, next time we need a manager we ask him". At the moment, I have three potential managers on my radar. There won´t be any need to hire someone from outside the company. Unless, of course, we expand to Budapest and need someone who is a local. ;)

All right... But with or without any bet, we've gotta play that match anyway! :D

Sure thing! With out without any bet, I will need to know who we´re dealing with in Budapest! A couple of hostel owners who are good at playing Risk may well make us stay away from there! :D

C'mon, we haven't even played that match yet! ;)
