Electronic Key Access Suitable for Hostels
Hi All
Just wondering if anyone has found an electronic system which is suitable for hostels?
Most of the electronic key systems currently on the market are catered to hotels, where one guest or a group of guests share a room with the same check-in and check-out details. However, as you know with hostels, several different people with different check in and check out dates share a room.
Most electronic systems I checked generally work by erasing the previous guest's contact details when a new authorised guest swipes his/her card. Thus for a hostel operation using electronic keys can be a hassle.
Any comments or suggestions on brands or ways you have gotten around this would be much appreciated.

Hi
Thanks for the links.
I had a read of these threads, but I was hoping for more specific coverage, not just the brand of the locks but the specific products purchased (I checked Kaba and Saflok and they had so many different models and systems).
Also I am still wondering how hotel operators overcame the issue of having multiple different users with different check-in and check-out dates using the same rooms (as most systems require guests of a specific room to have the same check-in and check-out dates) and also considering that I don't expect guests to return the cards.
Many thanks in advance.
Cheers

Ilco and Ving can modify their software so it shows the beds. For Vingcard you use the Vision system. For Ilco they trick the software with common door will be the main door and inside doors would be the beds so they can do 101-2. So each bed has their own check out date.
Hope that helps.

Cool thanks. Yeah thats a good idea having imaginary doors so as to speak
while the real door is seen as a common door for that particular apartment.
Also who has heard of MIWA locks. What do people think of them?

Vingard are using the same kind of trick, and it works fine, however you need a software license for a lot more doors (ie one for each bed + one for each room).
