All the times I have worked for accommodation I wasn't even put on the books at all. It was basically just an understanding with the manager and me. Essentially the government never even knew I was there.
Does anybody have some recommendations for how best to deal with state & federal entites in the USA when classifying employees/volunteers who do not receive monetary compensation? We are a very small operation, and have two people who get free rent for their time, and that's it. The state of Idaho has been giving us a hard time and wants us to claim them as traditional employees, including paying unemployment insurance, filing W2's/1099's, etc. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
