You don’t need a guidebook to travel, and getting information online is better, cheaper, and more convenient than what you will find in a book.

Do you guys use guide books for your own travels? I don't. I usually pick my destinations at the last minute with little more information than a fellow backpacker saying, "you should go there." It takes a little more work to find out from the staff and other backpackers what to do and see once I get to the city, but then I have a connection with the staff and other backpackers, which is the whole point.
Do some of you do the same thing, or am I just habitually unprepared?

I usualy get prepared and still love the old fashion travelling book. I like to know where I am going but that doesnt stop me to be flexible and to be able to change itineraries or route..and even get some times lost. You often discover some little paradise....:)

When I do buy them I find that I end up using the Internet for most information anyway.

I am a old fashion...still love to buy travel books and read them..I have to say that I also use internet but always have my travel book with me:)
I usually always buy the DK Eyewitness books.....and some times the Lonely Planet.....But love th colors and the pictures of the DK ones. In fact I always use the internet for bookings of the accomodations, flights and car rental..but for the informations in regards of the place its the travle books.

I like the DK Eyewitness books too. They're good for getting an overview of a destination.

I like the Rick Steve's books for Europe since he usually has something like a top 10 list. I can't stand the more encyclopedic guides that tell you everything you can do, but give no inkling about what you should do.

I have looked at them in the store but never bought them. I agree wiht you. Like the Rough Guide..I think they have all black and white and lots and lots of pages.
