Santa Klaus You are not telling the full truth. Hostel Owners voted against it because there was not going to be the possibility for Hostel Owners to reply to comments. It was going to be all one way information.
That does not make such a huge difference. Most hostels never reply to unfavorable reviews anyway.
Any newspaper can write all sorts of things about the government, and it has no "right to reply".
80% of the hostel ownerns voted for censorship. They are a disgrace for the industry. They should go to North Korea - I´m sure they´ll be happy there, unmolested by inconvenient opinions.
Yeah mate you are spouting the obvious again. First it was capitalism and now you are trying to reduce this discussion to cliches and broad sweeping comments like 'It is Not Us Versus Them'.
Hostels are capitalist, too. They also maximize profits. I stayed in a small town in Slovenia two weeks ago - I paid 20 Euros for a bed in a crammed 6-bed dorm. I´m quite sure you could get a nice single room in a B&B for a comparable rate - but the B&B doesn´t hype itself as a "hostel" and can´t be found on the internet.
There are specifics that can be discussed here like the value of an open forum, You Tube or Podcast competitions not created by the top agents. A true supporter of these agents does not kill critical conversation but engages in it because when these folk read it they will be more informed and able to make better decisions.
If I did not want them to be stronger then I would not write things they can do to become stronger. But I am not going ignore what they do that kills value to the industry. They do not own the industry no matter that they were the first. They have to be stronger in a manner that focuses more on people and their businesses rather than the easiest way to make profit.
Absolutely right, but tell me: how many companies do engage in critical conversation with their business partners in a public forum like this?
I know not one.
I agree they should start with it rather sooner than later, but you know how big companies work. They don´t even seem to have much internal open debate. I guess it would already help them so much if they had an internal forum like this, where every little hostel buddy is supposed to contribute to the decision-making. We´re talking about turning their entire corporate culture upside down here.
