My girlfriend and I are looking into starting a hostel in either Greece or Italy. I'm English and she is Brazilian but with duel Greek nationality.
The thing is its not the easiest thing to go about doing, as i'm sure many of you have found out. As it stands we are based in Brazil, I teach English and she is finishing her degree in business, which hopefully will come in handy.
Starting a hostel is something we are both very interested in, but obviously there are a lot of questions, doubts and ideas going through our heads daily about our options.....mainly, where to do it and will we be able to pull it off?
We are both young and inexperienced in this field and any ideas would be extremely handy. My girlfriend sides on the Greek island idea, but due to the seasonal nature of these places I have my doubts. Also we've been told that the reason that hostels are very few and far between in Greece is due to the nature of Greeks. They don't want to be seen as 'slumming it'. Any ideas on mainland Greece though and appealing to a younger, student crowd?
Also I would like to carry-on teaching, so the idea of living on a small island makes me think that I will be limiting my options.
I prefer the Italy. My parents are moving out there to start an alternative therapies retreat, so there experiences and contacts will be very useful, however where they are moving to, Brindisi, has little in the way of tourism.
We would appreciate greatly any ideas, help or advice that anybody can give us.
Cheers :)
