I'm putting together an ebook/audiobook on hostelling around the world for Indie Travel Guides (http://indietravelguides.com).
Along with general tips, I want to highlight local peculiarities and trends across hostels. In some places it's standard to have a kitchen, in other places it's virtually impossible to find one. Some areas always supply linen others want you to bring your own sleeping bag.
I'd love to know your thoughts:
a) What do you wish hostel guests knew before they arrived?
b) Where is your hostel based and what should people expect from hostels there (in your country)?

As santa klaus mentioned in a different thread, in germany, especially berlin, at least the hostel chains (a&o, meininger, don't know about the others) accommodate lots of school groups. I guess that this could be interesting for some indie travellers ;)
