Hostelworld commission?
Hello,
Could anyone tell me the exact commission hostelworld takes per person per night. We've heart 10% but we've also heard 22%.
Off course, this makes a huge difference. I can't really find it on the website.
Thanks for the help!

10%. If you use their booking engine on your site you can get a payback of this commission. Only for bookings made through your site however. the deposit goes straight to hostelworld for bookings made through their site, or other affiliates. As an aside, I've noticed that for bookings made direct through hostelworld the €1 booking fee has now been dropped, but if they book through our site it is still payable. Wondering if anyone else has noticed this?

According to the new contract, the guest will pay a 10% deposit when they book on HW or one of their affiliate sites. You will owe HW a service fee of 10% for processing that booking. They will apply the deposit that they collected from the guest against the service fee that you owe them. In the end, a commission of 10% will have been paid without any money changing hands between you and HW.
HW has different plans if you use their booking engine on your own website. I think the current standard offer is that the entire booking fee is always theirs, plus they keep the 10% deposit from the first booking of the day. They will pay you for the deposits, starting from the second booking of the day through your own website, once the total amount of the payback reaches $500USD. Other plans may be available, so you should ask your buddy for the best deal if you’re thinking about using their booking engine.

I just checked. There is still a booking fee on my own website and on HW for my hostel.

If I do a booking direct through the HW site - for example a random London hostel below, it comes up with no service charge. Not sure what hostels they are deciding to waive this for. All the google adwords links for UK hostels seem to say no booking fee.

Here's a link to updated information on the Hostelworld commission increase. Is 22% a mistake or are some properties paying 22%?

I think the 22% was a mistake, but according to an email from HW (as quoted in this thread) all new properties that sign up with HW, including hostels, have to pay 15% now. The commission for all existing hostels will also be gradually increased to 15% in the future.
WendaTravel, I don’t know what the contract says regarding commission payments for affiliate websites, but I would be very curious to find out. Would you like to send me a copy of your contract to look over? For hostel properties that use the HW booking engine on their own website, the payback will be sent when the total amount due reaches $500USD. Your site has far surpassed this amount, but your payback threshold is probably higher as well, right? Back when my hostel used their booking engine we also experienced late payments and projected payment dates that came and went without any transfer of funds. From what I have seen they generally do all of their transfers once per month toward the end of the month.
Call them up and talk to someone on the phone about your payment to get the best results. If they tell you a date when you can expect to receive your money, then ask for them to send you the info in an email so that you will have a written record.
